WINE
& TRADITION
One hundred and thirty years testify the long and fruitful winemaking
history of the La Fortuna vineyards, entrenched in the Lontue area
in the very heart of Chile's Curico Valley. It was on the 1st of
July of 1870 when the Hacienda Quechereguas already well known for
its large fruit production, was divided into what latterly be named
the "La Fortuna" farm.
On 1918, Mr. Modesto Guell Coll came from Tarragona, Spain. Both
his father and grandfather before him had been winemakers, so it
was only natural that young Modesto at that time should carry on
the family tradition on winemaking.
His commercial background helped him to raise the necessary funds
to purchase his first farm, the "El Penon"(The Rock) situated in
Nos, 15 kms from Santiago's down town. This area today is part of
Santiago, Chile's Capital City. In 1942, Mr. Modesto Guell sold
El Penon and with much vision he purchased the La Fortuna farm and
pioneered the plantation of Cabernet sauvignon, Malbec and Sauvignon
Blanc in the area. At this time, his son Daniel Guell Galofre turns
on to help his father Modesto carry on the family tradition of producing
ever improving wines.
Foreseeing in which direction future developments would incline,
Daniel planted many fine strains of vines as well as improving the
fruit harvesting quality and output of La Fortuna on the basis of
"Not putting all the eggs in the same basket".
Until then the sales of wine were purely in bulk, and in the late
forties, they embarked on the construction of an enormous "Bodega"
covering over 6.500 square meters comprising sixteen concrete fermentation
vats of 65.000 lts each followed by 80 oak vats of 30.000 lts in
conjunction with a bottling plant.

THE
VINEYARDS EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY
La Fortuna is noted for its exceptional quality and variety soil types,
as well as for the different microclimates that occur within the vast
estate.
In several plots which are all part of the vast estate, a total of
250 hectares have been dedicated to grow wine grapes. By carefully
selecting the location for growing specific grape varieties, it has
been assured that each one of them enjoys the most favourable growing
conditions.
These grapes varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere,
Malbec, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semillon.
The most part of the estate is cultivated in total absence of chemical
pesticides and herbicides which has results in an official organic
production.

ORGANIC
WINES RACINES
A commitment with the environment and quality, RACINES represents
the effort of many years of work in producing grapes without the addition
of pesticides and herbicides, thus preserving the environment.
The final result has been the production of organic wines with a quality
that is officially certified by the International Federation of Organic
Agricultare. The name RACINES is the French word for ROOTS, symbolising
the essence of the wine and the vine.

 |
RACINES is the best expression of the existing harmony between the
origins, the history and the roots of the people that actually produce
this wine.
